A Ton of Anime News Landed Over the Holidays
The Yuletide season offer a wealth of activities much better than checking the latest news: opening presents, feasting on holiday treats, and using patience techniques to not arguing with family members. I hope you managed to accomplish all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting news items surfaced during the holidays, and if you missed any, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (By 2027)
Truly the most shocking revelation, the much-discussed troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter the series' continuation. The show will be back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they might as well have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which could be taken as a good sign. Yet, the promotional image for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This leads one to believe that, by now, they could be mocking the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series proved it still retained the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now the community is ecstatic about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Currently in Production
Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been airing for years, and its sixth season was another outstanding entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will probably air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
One more studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an powerful woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my must-watch list.
Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two
Shortly after the release of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a sequel. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm release date has not been disclosed yet.
